Beginner’s Ford using SCT Software (South Region)

Our Ford Beginners class using SCT Software was fantastic.  We began by spending the first half of day 1 in the classroom going over the SCT LiveLink software, as well as several scan files.  The files were based on our test / R&D car, a Fox-Body mustang built for road racing, but with a 4.6L 3 Valve engine and transmission from a 2006 Mustang GT (but with a twist- we added a 68mm ball bearing STS Turbo!).  After the class spent time learning the LiveLink, we proceeded to learn the tuning process.  The class took a break for lunch and proceeded to start the tune from scratch on our STS Turbocharged test car.  They ended day 1 after completing about half of the tune on the Turbocharged 4.6L 3V Mustang.

Day 2 began with about 1.5 hours of classroom time, with open question and answer time for the students.  The students decided it was time to finish what they started the day before – and get the Turbo Mustang tuned – and tune it they did!  The Mustang made some very impressive gains.  With no turbo and a good tune, it was putting down 260 RWHP on our Mustang Dyno.  After the turbo and class tune (at just 6 psi of boost) they were making well over 370 RWHP and 400 FT-LBS Torque.  With some more agressive boost, the car would easily exceed 400 RWHP.  Not bad for a 2,500 lb Road Racing Mustang.

To finish off the day, we strapped down a students 2004 Mustang Cobra – which had been converted from a roots blower to a massive single turbo.  The students dialed in the part throttle but ran into fuel pressure issues.  After resolving this, the car went on to make over 700 RWHP.
